Another common Galah image, this one quite close up and taken down the road in the nearby playground, quite a few Galahs are feeding on the grassy area within the playground at the moment. To me a rather boring photographic subject so I rarely bother, but a closeup can be worthwhile sometimes, so simply crawled on my belly on the grass and got to a reasonable distance for a shot or two.
Maybe more space needed on the left, or maybe all round, but I found this comp kinda grew on me after looking for a while ?
Canon 7D + 500 f4....f 4.5, 1/1250, ISO 200, manual exposure, no flash, shot lying camera flat on the ground ...small crop for composition, slight selective sharpen

It could be a boring subject but I find the close up very striking, Phil.
The IQ is great and the low angle makes all the difference.

I'm with Karl on this one. Love the low angle and the full frame bird. It's nice to see all those details of this stunner, and the grasses are perfectly place and help to balance the image.

Hi Phil, cool low perspective, and just love the light, perfect colours, and you have certainly nailed the exposure. Great eye, and his feeding behaviour adds.

I love the crop and composition! And, to me, a very unusual subject.

there are surely few things i just love about this image
The low angle

the best is the keeping the spot of green grass blades in the frame adds a lot to the image to my eye
very nicely done

The grass at the bottom definitely adds a lot and a very nice close-up look
at the bird.

Sweet Polly. Nice and close with great detail. I really like that you included the little grasses and the food in the mouth is a bonus

Phil:
A well executed image of a common bird for you, but fun for most of us! Couldn't agree more about the grasses, they raise the bar for this one, adding balance and a second point of interest in the frame without competing with the bird.
Cheers

I owned a pet shop for 20 years and these birds were very desirable as pets here in the US. We called them Rose breasted Cockatoos. They are very beautiful and make great pets when hand reared. Beautiful close up look at one and the techs and details are right on the money! Perfect HA and the sprig of grass adds to the scene. Well done

Just an awesome image Phil - they may be common, but they are seriously underrated here in Oz.
I also love the grass tufts to the right of the bird - great work,
Cheers Greg

That's awesome Phil! Great low angle, colours, techs...but especially that tuft of grass. I'd like a bit more room all around as per your thoughts but it certainly works well as presented.

I'd like a little more room all around, but this is a pretty luscious shot, Phil. I just love the close look at those feathers and colors. Your low angle rocks. And that bit of grass makes the shot.
