Burrowing Owls are one of my favorite subjects to photograph they just seem to have so much attitude for a little guy. I found this guy sitting on one of the post that had cordon off the burrow and while not my ideal perch it did let me put a BG of yellow wild flowers behind him.

This is an absolutely lovely portrait, Don. The wildflowers are what make this one special. The stare down and those talons are nice touches as well.
Fantastic image. Composition, pose and background are spot on. Overall finish to the image looks great too, perhaps a tad more sharpening than I think I would have applied but it's difficult to say as everyones sharpening and style is different with the finished image. It just looks a little strong around the eyes.
Those eyes bore right into the viewer, stunning imagery Don, sharp as one could hope for and beautifully isolated from the ultra smooth and interesting backdrop. I dont mind the perch at all as it's small enough not to overpower the bird and at least it's a aged looking
I did selectively sharpen the eyes in retrospect I might have over done it:S3:Quote:

Love the background!
The background is stunning. It really makes the owl seem to pop off the screen. I think the perch worked well for you, as it displays the talons so well
Beautiful BG and love the pose, the perch works well.
I think that the perch is fine, so is the bg and the owl is sharp as a tack.
Very nice Don, great pose and sharpness but for me I find the background a bit distracting.
