Hi Mike, the amount of details are incredible...love the subtle color on the bird...I feel at f/4 shallower DOF would have given less texture to BG, resulting in slightly smoother BG and better subject separation. TFS

Great composition, interesting and different. I really like the bill pointing down on the diagonal and the intense look in the eye! Just because those head feathers are so cool, it would be interesting to see a version where they are entirely included. I like the effect of the feathers coming off the shoulder of the bird, adding a nice balance. The deep green bkgd provides great contrast for the white bird to really stand out. I feel the bird is so strong that the bkgd doesn't really bother me.

I like the composition & great IQ. Lovely light. As mentioned above, I wish for a version with shallower DOF.

Magnificent portrait with great IQ.Nice composition,still I think feathers on the head should not have cropped.
Love the colors,intense stare of egret and details.

These egrets in breeding plumage are indeed stunning. Very underrated birds. Love the pose and intense stare you've captured, Mike. Agree with points above regarding separation and inclusion of head feathers.

Great composition, my eyes are drawn right to the bird's bill and eye. I like the color contrast between the bird and the background, and I like the environmental feel to the background itself. Nice sharp detail, the different composition works very well for me. Excellent shot, congratulations.

F4 would not have worked in this case. If you have shot at Gatorland, you would understand how close the subjects are. He would not have been able to achieve sharpness and depth on the entire bird.
