There is nothing quite like being stared at by a wild wolf. A friend and I were out on our annual camping trip photographing brown bears when I looked over my shoulder and saw this lovely wolf sitting and watching us.
Texture layer, Silver Efex Pro II, brought the yellow eyes back through, intensified the color of the eyes, a bit of Photoshop dry brush filter, boosted contrast. Tight crop.
This is one of those spellbinding images. The flow of the lines might have something to do with it, but I think it's probably the combination of those eyes and the tight crop. The effect is incredibly effective.
John, how wonderful to be watched by a wolf:S3: They have the most incredible eyes and your black and white treatment and the texture and dry brush makes this compelling. The diagonal strokes give it an energy that fits nicely with the wildness.
What a fabulous experience! You really captured the intensity & wildness of the stare by emphasizing a roughness with your chosen textures and blackness. All extraneous details have been eliminated with such a tight crop and one is left with the startling yellow eyes. I don't know if I am looking at the wolf or the wolf is looking at me!
