Clay colored thrush

Yet another setup from my trip to South Texas a couple months ago. (I'm going to give you guys a break from these setups after this one .... for a while at least :)

Fellow birders were excited about having sighted this species - it's apparently quite uncommon there.
Imagine my pleasure when this fellow showed up at my perch the very next morning and posed for me for several seconds.
I was grinning ear to ear as I was clicking.

Canon 1D4, 700mm,
1/1250, f9, iso 800, full frame
Hide, tripod.

Conversion to sRGB caused a slight clipping on some of the berries which I didn't try to fix.

Beautiful set up, like the perch, berries ( the one in the beak is a nice bonus), the composition and IQ. I have these guys in my garden in Yucatan. Well done....and please feel free to post some more set up images.

Techs look great, Sidharth. Composition, BG and perch are all perfect, as is HA. Love the red berries which add good color to what otherwise would be a somewhat drab image. Very well done.

Wow, awesome shot of a real rare bird, Sidharth. You captured a great moment with the fruit in the beak. The background nicely compliment the bird's colour.
I only have a "document" shot of this bird which was one of the highlights of our birding trip to Texas.

That eye is excellent as is the overall image quality, those berries look great against what is generally a plain setting, cant really find anything worth tinkering with....splendid shot Sidharth

Nicely composed and expertly captured Sid! These guys are a dime a dozen in Costa Rica, but a real rarity in the states.

Sweet for all the reasons noted above. Have they changed the name from Clay-colored Robin???? Which ranch?

This is a real stunner. The IQ, perch and BG are terrific and the berry in the beak bumps it up a notch.

Wonderful photo. I usually only see them in shaded trees (not real common here, but see them every now and then). Very nice for this one to cooperate and come to your set-up!

Amazing shot for all the reasons noted above. I really love how the colours all complement each other. Food in mouth is always an extra 5 points.

Hi Sid, excellent IQ, and the light in this is simply exquisite. The thrush certainly gave you a great angled pose, and capturing him with a berry in his beak takes this over the top. Killer BG too. An opportunity well used.

Artie, yes, they were Robins until 2010, I believe. No ranch. This was at the B&B we stayed in. I called the owners up a week in advance and requested them to put food out. Used my pop-up blind. I took this perch (and a few others) with me from Austin.

Jeannean, I had one occasion where this bird, two Golden Fronted wps and an Altamira Oriole all landed on the same small perch at the same time. South Texas is awesome. Being a bird photog in McAllen, TX must be a blast!
