Taken during the afternoon on a very grey day with Steve Kaluski.
Steve let me loose with his 500mm for a few hours during our last outing and I was able to experiment with some slightly different compositions of the resident sandhill cranes.
Comments and critique welcome as always.

Wouldn't this have made a cracking "pleasing blur" (sorry I just watched the video :e3)

Different, well seen and well done!
At first I did not like this image and in about 10 seconds it began to grow on me.
A very creative image with wonderful detail & subtley.
Very nice way of using the 500 as a macro lens. Different and creative. I love it.
This was the first and only time the crane fluffed up his neck feathers with very little warning so I have two things on my mind for the next time, more DOF and to try a blur. Maybe I can experiment with creating a blur from this in PS just to see what the results are.Quote:

I think this works well because of the comp and the IQ but especially because the yellow/brown in the feathers picks up the BG colors.

Jamie - very well done. The comp, detail adn tones all work beautifully. Looks like you had fun. So did Steve hold Ewan as collateral? My guess is he wanted at least your first born.

Amazing details Jamie. Was it the IS II that you used? I held one last weekend, it was light.
I did offer it back on at least two occassions lol and guess you won't be so kind next time :t3 :5. Considering my drought in images the last while, I am pleased with this and grateful you let me borrow your baby. That is one nice piece of glass for a future buyer.Quote:
