This image was taken recently at the Crystal River Raid, Civil War Reinactment. He was just practicing and all seemed to be right, as I composed the image. He was very cooperative as I got off a few shots.
Modification in CS6 and Topaz with a light sepia tone added for good measure.
Enjoy!

Nice image and processing. I didn't attend, but I could hear parts of the reenactment from my home :S3:

The vignette is very effective. I wonder how it would look if the white beyond the vignette were the same tone as the lightest part of the rest of the image . . .

Nice image as presented, I also would be interested in the image all being the same tone...

Mark, I like the image and the treatment you've given. I think I'd lighten up the dark mask over his nose and eyes or at least soften up the edges of it.

This has an interesting graphic look to it. For me, the hat and the hands really stand out, making more of an emotional statement rather than making the image about an individual man. I like the dark framing.

The pose is excellent! It is clear what he is doing. The tones are nice. I, too, would lighten the dark area on his face. I wonder what it would look like processed to look more realistic.

Thank you all for viewing and comments. Appreciate it. I tried to modify per the comments and prepared this version.
Per request this is a modified version to show overall sepia cast and reduce the darkening shadows.
Personally, I prefer the original after looking at the full sized DAP modified image, as the shadow effect is created in DAP Aquarell and is the shaping of the nose and cheek areas. Also I like the slightly tinted boarder area, over the fully tinted version, as it separates the image from the frame matte. But understand other visions, so I tried to accomodate. Hope you enjoy! :S3:
I noted that the Aquarell step was not noted in the original notes.

Mark: I prefer the tones of the original post. The dark shadow that I suggested lightening was the one on his face. Here is what I had in mind. Of course, the most important factor is for you to be pleased with your image.

Hi Mark - I prefer the toning of the op with Anita's adjustment to the shadow on the nose. The pose and comp work really well as does your treatment.

Rachel
