Another Bronx Zoo shot. I was testing the high ISO capabilities of the 5D3. Composed mostly in camera but cropped slightly for comp. Converted in CS6 and a few shadow/light/burning/dodging type actions run.

Rachel, I think this is lovely and for some reason I find it poignant. Did you have to do any noise reduction? It looks great! Hope we see more from the zoo. I love the perspective on this one.:S3:

Thanks Cheryl, yes, I think I applied a couple of rounds of NR to bg and one round to the arms but none to the hands. I processed it a while ago so don't completely remember.

I like the composition, and the conversion to black & white was a great idea. It's one of those images that -- perhaps because of the questions it raises -- is very compelling. It was on my second visit that I understood the Escher reference. Clever.

Wow nice outcome at 3200...very compelling image...Just my opinion but I think I would prefer this as a square very tight crop around the animal, minimizing the FG rock and right BG as much as possible, maybe even a vignetter blur...my preference only... certainly works as presented..Got to get over to the Bronx zoo this year!

Thanks Dennis and Nick, much appreciated. Nick - I had also looked at the square crop. Didn't like it as much but it is definitely an alternative.
Thanks again,
Rachel

My eye goes right to those hands. Very nice B&W work.

Rachel, this is beautiful and I agree with the word poignant. The inclusion of hands (and feet) in pictures of people always adds an emotional touch to the image, and it is no different here. Excellent job on the b&w, you have a nice range of tones that is often lacking in these conversions. Very powerful and memorable image. Well done!
I'm eagerly awaiting the delivery of my 5DIII, should be here on Thursday! :bg3:
