I've been out to the Yankeetown FL boat ramp a couple of times to do some night photography. It's the darkest place I can find near me that is relatively accessible and safe at 2 am. But alas, as with all other spots I've tried, there's some light pollution - in this case from a power plant several miles to the south.
In this image, i tried to take advantage of the invading light to create a somewhat different night scene.

Hey Maureen, that works for me! I really like the glow coming from the left - it does add something different. My wife and I saw the comet tonight through binoculars. It was very small and faint and I don't think I could have gotten a nice image like this.

I really like this, Maureen! The star detail and foreground illumination are balanced in a very pleasing way. Well done! The southern glow only adds to the interest IMHO. We seem to be trying similar photo techniques again... I just finished a " barn door" mount for my camera so that I can take long exposures and track with rotation of the earth. Will try some when the weather warms up. http://www.garyseronik.com/?q=node/52

I agree with the above comment this is a very nicely composed image, well done to capture this. Love the colors, crop and the stars rock.

A very nice glass of lemonade . . . It may not be what you really wanted, but I think the glow adds a lot to the image -- especially with its placement and its reflection in the water. The image is very nicely composed, too.

Maureen, I love the composition on this. I think the light actually enhances the images even if it wasn't what you envisioned. This reminds me of an old image that's printed on metal (tin type?). I like it a lot!:S3:

This image is most impressive. The power plant glow is a positive.

Maureen: You did a wonderful job using the light pollution to enhance your night sky photo. It looks like you wanted that light in there. It creates a contrast with the rest of the image--it is warm and light versus the cool and dark. The silhouettes of trees and ramp add interest and ground the image. Excellent. I'd love to see it large.

Maureen, this is lovely. I agree with all the comments above. Super well done!! BTW, I really admire people who can pull themselves out of bed at 2 am for their art!

LOve the starfield. A peaceful, tranquil image, and the light pollution looks the lingering glow of sunset.
