one from a few days ago. I took out my new 5.6/400, to see how it does and found a family of spinebills feeding on those lovely purple flowers.
I bought the lens to have a lens/camera with me when I walk around scouting for new locations and for flight shots.
So far I am not overly impressed, but I got a few decent images nonetheless.

Nicely composed on the flowering branch Jan, the diagonals work very nicely, bird loks well focused and contrasting well against the smooth backdrop....well done

Sweet capture Jan, I had a love hate relationship with the 400 f/5.6 for some time and eventually sold it.
The problem was the minimum focusing distance made it a terrible lens imo for a walk around lens and the bokeh it produced was not good especially when I have a 500 and 300 F/2.8
As far as a flight lens, its one that's hard to beat especially for small birds in flight. It's fast and light and sharp.
I know many people that have bought, sold and repurchased this lens.

Excellent image, very appealing perch and colours. BG is quite sweet too. I'd reduce the reflection along the top of the bird's eye...not all of it, but some.
