I went further for this shot to reduce the shooting angle.
The sun was going down very fast.
This and a few more shots were the last ones for the day.
I removed a few small branches going accross in front of the breast area.

The comp is quite nice, like the inclusion of the snow, well exposed. With this gaze direction, in a perfect world, would prefer the light more from the left to light up the shaded eye. The directional lighting has however really added definition to the trunk.

The image shows how well the owl can blend into the tree. I wish for better eye contact but you take what you can get. Nice image Karl.
The owl camouflaged so well. I think you have done a great job in reducing the angle and the exposure. Too bad about the HA, but we would all like to have the shot! Well one.

Very cool Karl. Shows how cryptic the pattern of the owl is compared to the tree. Natures camo is awesome. Not the best HA but at least we can see the whole eye. Techs are great as usual. Well done.

Awesome cavity this fella chose, and the surrounding bark texture is superb. Great light quality here. What I love most is the contrast between cool shade and snow at left and warm light coming from the right.
I really like the perspective you have shared here, Karl. It's unique. LOVE all the environment. I would add some sharpening to the owl.

Since posted I have seen this beautiful image of well camouflaged owl many times.
Wonderful lights and shadows on bark and owl,ice on bark,nice colors and details.
Great composition too.If mine would replace the sky in RUC with bark with or without ice from the LHS.
