There is something both awkward and elegant about sandhill cranes to me. Took this in Fort Myers in early Jan on a gray day. So excited to finally get to see them.
Cropped from a vertical, sharpening, and some burning of the rocks. I know the bill is a bit dirty but I opted to leave it as is.

Melissa - A very pleasing image. Nice comp, sharpness, detail and exp. Interesting that you went from a vertical frame to horizontal, it's usually the other way around.

Very apt title, and love that pose. Super exposure, colors and details here. I see a slight oddity where the sand meets the grass lower left.
Sharp and nicely exposed and interesting crane pose.
I also see a PP line around the feet where the BG meets the sand.
Easy fix.

Thanks for all the feedback. Marina and Dan, thanks for pointing out that spot. I had selected the rocks to darken them a bit and hadn't been especially careful in my selection.

I really like this photo. One can almost see the tentativeness in the downward steps. Stepping gingerly, almost like the crane knows it must be a little more careful than usual. Nice blurred background and good detail in the entire bird.
Striking image, Melissa. What I like the most is the walking down pose from the rock. You usually see these birds on flat surface. The pose you captured is unusual and great. Love the nice OOF bacxkground and the great details as well.
That's a very different pose Melissa and I like it a lot I like the angles created by the different leg poses and the curve created by the sandy hill that he is standing on
