Glossy, full extension

This one was taken at Viera Wetlands on my recent trip down to Merritt Island. The two locations are about an hour apart, and definitely worth visiting. For this image, I was initially shooting terns when I saw this glossy take off. I quickly lowered my shutter speed to let in more light (wish I could have increased the ISO, but I cant do that with one hand on a Nikon), turned and got 3-4 frames before he passed me. Lucky for me, I was able to get one with good extension on the wings.

Beautiful image Miguel...perfect composition, creamy background, great flight pose too. I really like that the color highlights on the wing are visible. I am surprised at how sharp this is (more than sharp enough...no criticism on that score) considering your shutter speed. I don't think I would change a thing. Very well done.

Agree with Dennis, HA could be slightly better. really nice detail in the dark colors, really nice background. I tend to like slightly blurred wings. Great job!

Really nice downstroke of the wings, and beautiful iridescence. Agree with the others about head angle. The ISO control on the Nikon body is something I've never understood. Why design it so that two hands must be used to make a change?

Really nice, Miguel. I love the fact that the bill, body and feet are within the green part of the bg, and of course the nice downstroke. I'm not overly bothered by the HA, but of course a slight turn might have been better. Nice colors on the bird. I'm also frustrate by the two-hand ISO control on my Nikon. If I recall correctly, it's possible to program one of the dials to control the ISO, but that would be at the expense of even more useful one-hand controls.

Bill, I've looked into this and found no solution. On my previous body (D300s), I had the AF-L button do auto ISO, which was really convenient. Now that the D800 has that built in with the scroll wheel, I was hoping to be able to change the ISO with the AF-L (or either of the two function buttons up front). None of them give me the option!

Lovely smooth backdrop and sharp detail especially considering relatively low shutter speed, lovely wing form depicted as well, I would consider a slight clockwise rotation to level the whiter backdrop and at the same time lift the birds head a little

This is really nice. I love the colors on the wings and I am not really bothered by the HA. I also like the wing position.

I like it Miguel, a bit of wing blur from the slow SS, but still a nice photo.
I hear you on the ISO frustration, it would be nice to change on the fly.
I just set mine high on the D800 (although 1000 -1600 is about where I keep it most all the time),

Hi Miguel, great wing position, together with the curves of the Ibis from ene to end. Lovely smooth BG, which makes the Ibis pop. These guys are really colourful with the iridescence on their body and wings.

Nice job getting the wings down and showing the beautiful iridescence. I am not crazy about the horizontal line being so prominent with such a bright bg on the bottom but I seem to be quite sensitive about that. Nice Job Miguel
