Woof!!

Dave's theme week always reminds me of "creatures & flips"... and lots of fun!

This puppy "creature" was conceived as a physiogram... in a very dark place. :S3:
Then the flips started.
The good news is HE is already house-broken and very low maintenance.
Seems to be a natural at retrieving.

All he needs is a name.
What do you think it should be??

Just incredible. I can't imagine where you found this guy hiding in one of your mag images, but I'm sure glad you did.

I think I'd call him Tut...after the egyptian pharoah..he reminds me of the dog they had guarding tombs.

My suggestion for a name is "Flash". This is incredible and I would love to see a video of how you do this. One week you are creating abstract designs and the next week you are creating dogs! What's next??

Artie, The physiograms are created by hanging a small flashlight on a string from the ceiling and putting your camera underneath facing up. Turn on the flashlight… darken the room… start the flashlight swinging… and trip the shutter (set to bulb) to record the light trace for as long as you wish.
You have just made a physiogram!

I sometimes alter the process by using gels in front of the lens for differing colors or shooting a series of multiple images of a single swing and putting them together as layers in PS. Then modifying each layer as I wish.
I have also put my camera on a swinging platform and used a stationary light above. It just makes different patterns possible.
That's what happened for this image... and I used it to make the Woof!! composite.

There are all kinds of possible light paintings with these pendulum orbits.

Thanks Steve. When you swing the flashlight is it completely random or are you trying to paint a dog???

The swing is random, but... with practice you can sometimes predict what the overall shape may be like. You can get an idea of some of the varieties of shapes in my recent postings starting 12/12/12.
I wasn't trying to paint a dog when I did this. I created him using one physiogram as a component or building block.
I first created the image in pane #13 from one swing and then used that image 7 times in the composite of Pane #1.
Flips, transformations, blend modes, turns and layer masks were used in PS to bring about the birth of "Flash".
I suppose I could have just as well created a... some type of critter like the butterfly in http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ead.php/106139 but for this image I played around with it until I envisioned a puppy. The head was first (two of pane #13, rotated and flipped.)
It's all free-form and just pops out when I am inspired. Long, cold winter nights will do that to ya. :bg3:
