I took this photo and worked on it last February, but never finished it until now. It was taken a few miles from my house.
I used Topaz Clean and Topaz Detail; CEP Cross Processing & Fog. Added 4 textures by Shadowhouse Creations. If anyone is interested in which textures, I believe I can retrieve the info.
Does the brown interfere with the mostly B&W scene?
Absolutely wonderful scene Anita. The processing seems just right as it is, in my opinion. The only part that keeps drawing my eye, and I might address, is a bit of a vertical white stripe about a third of the way in on the upper right. Seems to be part of one of the textures. Not bad, but doesn't seem to fit the rest in my eye. Wonderful composition for sure.

Anita, a beautiful composition. I love all the curves. There's a section a little to the right of center over and into the trees that has a yellowish tint that I'm not seeing anywhere else on the image. It might be my monitor?
A beautiful scene Anita! The texture works well, and the repost does improve it. I don't see a yellow cast.
Hi Anita, I like the composition,pano crop and the subject matter. To my eye the texture doesnt seem to work in the sky possibly due to it being black and white. If this were my image I would take out the texture in the sky and crop out about half the sky. I might also give it a slight contrast adjust...
I appreciate your comments. I would have to go back and redo quite a bit of the processing to take out the texture (though I may do so later). Instead, I added a blue texture, especially to the sky, and added contrast. Is this an improvement or not?Quote:

Hi Anita, yes, I like this alot better. I tried increasing the contrast to give the sublects a bit more separation but after doing it I realized I was losing the mood that I think you were trying to convey....
Pane # 8 is a winner, I almost expect to see Santa and his sleigh coming around the corner...well done
Hi Anita, I'm loving the original post. The feeling of cold and winter atmosphere is palpable. The comp with the strong lines and bending snow covered trees is wonderful. The image in pane #8 may work, but it doesn't present the same feeling to me. The background trees and buildings have lost just a bit of "pop", and I much prefer this in black and white and the textured sky. Just my take. Perhaps, there is a middle ground, where you can reduce contrast in the sky and still maintain the textures. Agree with Cheryl..........on slight yellow cast in some places. I tried Nik's, Tonal Contrast in "reverse" to soften the sky a bit and then re-adjusted the lighting of the sky to the original. I liked it. Food for thought.
Thank you Judy, Cheryl, Jay, Paul and Dave. I appreciate your detailed comments. I find your differing views fascinating and encouraging, reflecting the subjective nature of art appreciation. I now have several versions of this image and will try to figure out which I prefer. :bg3:
I'm with Jay on liking the original, although the latest repost is quite nice. They're the same scene, but evoke a much different response. One of the things I like -- and I'm not sure I understand why -- is that the textures of the sky and ground are so similar. You asked about the brown. I like it. Perhaps because the image reminds me so much of something I might find in an old book, and the tint is consistent with that. The low contrast is part of that, too.
I imagine the yellow is just part of the brown. I suppose it's a coincidence that the yellow and that white mark that Dave mentioned are so close to each other, but they work together very well for me. My eyes are drawn to the line. When that happens, I see it as one of several rays coming from what could be the sun at the top edge of the image. Sun ... Yellow ... It all fits, and I don't know if I'd see that without the line.
I really like the sweep of the foreground and the curves in the ground and the tree line.
Anita, I love Pane #8 and would be interested to see Jay's vision also:S3: It's a gorgeous scene so I think it's worth it to have as many options as possible.
Here is what I came up with, but I lost Anita's coloring, which I like in the OP...........anyway the sky is a bit muted. It's a different look not sure I like it better.Quote:
