I have not done much photography off late and decided to head out to Yosemite over the weekend and try and get some new images of waterfalls after all the rains we had in last few weeks. Here is one of the Vernal Falls. I used 1/4 sec, f20 exposure. For processing, I used Topaz Adjust to soften the image and applied Simplify. I also used adjustment layers for selective colors. Hope you like it.

I like the composition, the angular rocks and the cotton candy effect in the falls and basin below. It took me a little while to really understand what was happening, though, at the bottom of the falls. When I completely desaturated the blue channel, it seemed easier to read. The desaturation did two things. It nearly eliminated the blue in the rocks, and it reduced the blue of the water at the foot of the falls. (There's enough cyan that the water in the basin retained a lot of color.) I'm not sure if it was one of those things or both that made the difference.

Dennis, thank you so much for the advice... I had been trying to figure this out myself. The waterfall being in the shadow, the color temp was certainly on the cooler side. I wanted to retain some of the blue of the water and the pool below. I used the adjustment layers for selective colors with a mask but not the saturation. It looks much better....

Great composition with the trees framing two sides allowing your attention to stay on the smooth water falls and the sheer rock face. The fern frond on the left in the foregound grasses is a wonderful bit of detail.

How wonderful to be able to run over to Yosemite to take some photos. :-)
I like what you did for the repost. The composition is pleasing. I like the tree on the left border and at the top, the line of rocks, the grass at the bottom--they all frame the falls nicely. I also like seeing the rock through the falls. I wonder what it would look like with a little less of the filter.
