Hi all. I captured this last weekend while on my way home from Cachuma Lake, north of Santa Barbara, California. While coming down the mountain I saw this scene and turned off onto a road that I knew had a good view of the coastline. The sun was just setting and the fog had settled exactly over the water so that the ocean couldn't be seen. This is a five-image HDR, converted in PS CS6, then Topaz Simplify and some USM. You can see the tops of San Miguel and Santa Rosa islands - two of the Channel Islands that sit off the coast of Southern California.

Stunning image Kerry! Ditto what Cheryl said about the colors and layers of sky and fog. The original capture must have been killer!

I'm not usually a fan of saturated colors, but that single band of saturated blue really works, here, especially because it's near the bottom and the rest of the colors are softer. The shadows of the breaking waves add a lot to the appeal of the image.

I would love to see something like this as I walked down a mountain. Lovely! The bands of color are lovely. I like that some are diagonal, and some horizontal. I like saturated colors. I might be tempted to saturate the sky colors more, starting with the yellow, but that might be too much of a good thing.

Stunning layers of colors! I like how they vary in intensity and thickness.
