Cedar Key Honeymoon Shack

Cheryl and I had a grand time in Cedar Key yesterday, photographing local landmarks and discovering a few new places. We even saw the Loch Ness monster but were both quite bewildered about how she made the trip to Cedar Key (another post, coming soon.)

I've seen countless photographs of the iconic Honeymoon Shack and really wanted to do something entirely different with it.

Originally built in 1959 as a guest house, the structure is located about 300' from shore. Unfortunately, it has fallen victim to numerous storms over the years. Hopefully it will survive for a while longer.

Hi, Maureen, I think this is perfect for the scene! I think I deleted all of my shack images because the water was such a cruddy color. Why didn't I think of B&W??? I especially like the touches of color on the shack and the tint of the water and sky.

Maureen, this one is very nice. I like the composition. I think the washout effect and the tint works well here. TFS and the bg on the shack itself.

Hi Maureen, I absolutely love this image. I agree with the others that the composition and processing fit this subject perfectly. The birds on the short pilings are an added bonus.

Maureen, Very nice! I like the monochromatic feel and the soft tones. Very nice composition. Looks like a great find! You guys must have had a great adventure wish I could have joined you.

Nice work on this image, I like the b & w conversion, nice all around composition. Only thing I would have tried was to pull a bit more detail out of the center of the shack but thats just me.

Like the effect of the processing, as others note.

I'll have to get back there, before it sinks! ; > )

Is this on the main road leading to town? I know there are a couple of stilt building, on the left, as you arrive on the key. I don't remember seeing this one when we were there last time. The others, that I remember seeing, were still standing as I recall.

Mark, the Honeymoon Shack is on the left if you follow 1st St. west from the pier. I think it was really damaged by Debby, because when I compare images I took a couple of years ago to this one, it is in far worse shape.
