Oh Wow! I think you have a nice natural spotlight effect which helps reduce some of the distraction from the busy background (something that you can't control in this environment). I would lighten the bird a bit as he seems to be a little too dark. The detail looks like it's there! How do you like the d800 with the 4 fps?

You did quite well with the off-angled light. I love the victim's open bill--as if it were screaming.
Very cool! Love the prey's open bill, and despite no trees the image has a very nice forest feel. There is a cyan cast on the hawk's plumage that should be easy to take care of...
