This image was created during the most recent spring migration in Northern Minnesota.
Incidentally, the image was made about 20 feet from the spot where my previous Lapland
Longspur image was made. Some may not care for the centered positioning of the subject
in this image. Consider, if that is you, the implied "triangular composition", particularly with
regards to the rock and subject. One of the great avian photography forum intellectuals (imo),
Paul Leverington, enlightened me to the existence of triangular compositions...anyway, food for
thought, and if you are curious, just google "triangular compositions" and give it a once over...
SonyA300, Sigma50/500, iso400, f9, 1/320, cropped, resized, adjusted contrast, selective NR
applied to the background, (Lake Superior in this case), USM. (Image made close to sunset).
Comments and critiques welcome.

Shawn Zierman.

An absolutely stunner, Shawn. The light and pose are over the top and the colors are so brilliant. I find the Ruddy a tad too centered and would move it slightly to the right.

This is absolutely gorgeous! Love everything about it. The lighting, the raised foot, the interesting rocky mound. All comes together nicely. The rock in ways actually compliment the breeding plumage on the handsome male.

Shawn,
Marvelous image.Love the pose, lights, details and nice BKGR. Agree with Marina about placement of bird.

Excellent! Beautiful light, exposure, raised foot, lichen. Perch and BG look good too. I could go for a bit less below and a bit more above...BUT!!...the bird does not look centered to me...there is much more room in front of the bill than behind the tail.

A gorgeous bird, and image. Love the raised foot, clean BG and alert pose of bird. I'm with Marina on moving the bird to the right a little bit.

Killer bird, light, BKGR, and sharpness and I love the raised foot. A sliver off the back would be fine with me.

Composition certainly is a personal choice, and I think that having some variety in your portfolio of images makes it more interesting as a whole. This works rather well, but I don't think a sliver off the right would hurt either. With the warm light, looks as if you are pushing the reds. (This comment is by eye, not looking in PS). The raised foot, blue bg, and complimentary colors of the perch really make this a beautiful image.

Hi Shawn, love the light and brilliant colours, and of course the raised foot does add interest. The colour of the foot and orange coloured lichen compliment each other, and Im just fine with your placement as is.
