Abyssian Ground Hornbill
Having seen these for the first time they are remarkably different to the Southern Ground Hornbill, most noticeably the casque. The voice however is very similar.

Very interesting looking bird, indeed. Great detail in the plumege. It would be interesting to see the red pouch inflated.

Thanks for your comment, the pouch is apparently inflated as part of the mating display but only by the male. Unfortunately I have never seen this behaviour in either type of Ground Hornbill

I have been after a flight shot of these birds but to date haven't even seen them much in any reserve. Great sighting Ken and well captured TFS.

I have had a few flight shots of our native Southern, but this one was new to me, I'll see what happens next year
