Does anyone use or recommend using a polarizer with any of the big telephotos for birds and birds in flight? Any thoughts and examples would be appreciated.

Hi Randy,
I have the drop-in polarizer for my 500 and 300 f/2.8. I've not used it for BIF as you lose a lot of light. Actually, I rarely use it, and usually forget to even bring it. I use polarizers more for landscapes.

I don't use per Roger's answer.

Nope. Just use the drop in that came with my 600.
I have a drop in polariser for my 400 f2.8 L IS USM lens. Difficult to use for birds in flight, as the light changes and you need to move the polariser to get the polarising action. One can use it for mammals when they are not moving much. If the light angle is not right, then no point in using it. Also, if you are not using it and the polariser is in the lens, there will be drop in light.
Not often used. It is neither cheap nor easily available. I couldn't find it in India. It was not available in Singapore as well. Finally CP of Singapore ordered from Japan and got it. Too much of hassel for so little use.
