Appreciate the comments! Judy; yes the eye is not only that shape, but I used the history brush to erase the filter effect (actualy I do this with the eyes with most of my images) .
This is a very long bird that presents compositional problems (as noted needed more space on the left), as well as a considerable DOF if the bird is not parallel to the sensor, which resulted here in the back of the bird slightly out of focus, causing the loss of detail Cheryl commented on. I have plenty of other nighthawk images that would be better in this respect. Biggest problem is getting the eyes wide open; they like to sleep on fence posts in daylight. regards~Bill.
