Quickly grabbed this one from my library - captured in November 2011 in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa.
We happened upon a Spotted Eagle Owl nest close by the road, with 3 large chicks out and about being silly.
This is one captured against the setting sun.

A tiny bit of fill flash would;d be nice, but onlt a tint amount so as not to lose the back light showing naturally. Nice posture on this chick and I like how it sits in the frame

Morkel:
I am in agreement with Phil. Like it, back lighting is effective, but would like a bit more on the front of the bird, either from original exposure or fill flash. Probably 1/3 more stop would be about right.
Nice to work the different lighting options~

Attached image, has a slight mid curve adjustment, hide all mask and then brushed in effect to taste. Just an option

I like Randy's adjustments quite a bit. As posted it just wasn't working for me. Your BG is lovely and you have great details in the owl.

Thanks Randy, Marina and Phil.
I purposely went for the darker look here...but I like your repost Randy.
Here's my own rework (quick one).

Morkel - I like the backlighting and the rich tones of the bg. I prefer the reposts to the op.

Rachel
