Pink-eared Duck (Malacorhynchus membranaceus) Hunter Wetlands NSW Australia
Canon EOS 7D Lens 400mm L USM 5.6 ISO400 F7.1 1/800 available light 18 June 2012
Pink-eared Ducks are a spectacular duck and not easily confused in the field however this species is highly nomadic and dispersible and while they can appear in large numbers at some inland areas casual observers may rarely see them. As some are now at Hunter Wetlands (which of course within the Newcastle urban area I went there yesterday for some new images of the species. The species is monogamous and has some interesting behavioural habits The image above is for identification purposes. Birds in Backyards has a fact sheet at : http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/species/Malacorhynchus-membranaceus
Thank you for viewing
