I'm usually never at the Alligator Farm at 4:00 pm but I left work early and decided to stop in. This 7 footer had just caught a careless young Snowy Egret and was off to find a quiet place to enjoy it. I waited for it to get in the shade and into the calm water, got as low as I could and took the shot. Nikon D300, 70-200 VR I w/1.4tc. Shot at 420mm, 1/800, f/8, iso-400. It's dark, consistent with the moment. (If he would've just turned a little to his left...)

As you stated, a little head turn...but this one is all about the reflection for me. The feathers resemble some written characters from the far east. Probably translates as a warning to stay out of the water!

A classic "Beauty and the Beast "...a most unusual and excellent reflection

I really like this one! Excellent even without the head turn. I might doge on the gator head a bit to eek out a bit more seperation but a fantastic moment captured.

Indeed a powerful image, enhanced by drama and the almost monochrome nature of the shadows/light tonality.

I agree with Roman on many points tonight! :bg3:

Thanks for the comments. When I worked at the Alligator Farm that seven foot 'gator was probably a two footer...and I should've taught him about head angle!

Wonderful image, speaks a lot. The reflection really adds a lot to it

A little dodging of the snout and I touched the eye...and the reflective eye too...
