Dug this one from the 2010 archives...taken in the Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa.
Saw this elephant walking in the bush, and the skies were nice so I reached for the wide angle...
:S3:

I prefer the B&W here, but will post the colour version for comparison.

Hi Morkel, the B&W is by a mile more dramatic, I felt a 10% crop from the left will balance the image a bit better, but I can be wrong?113839

Another vote for the B&W, much prefer it, as it's alot more dramatic. The Comp's are very similar, both work nicely IMO TFS:cheers:

Both are great bud, The B&W for dramatic effect and color for capturing the true scene...Proves my point that gear makes little difference, its the person behind the camera that counts... Nicely done!

Looking at the color, a bright beautiful day; the B&W is a bit dark and suggests a darker day. You were in a beautiful sunlit day; the B&W suggests a more overcast day.

Having said that, the B&W is wonderfully dramatic.

Black and White without a doubt.
Much better for me.
The color version looks like an average day.
The B &W looks menacing and dramatic.
No contest.

Personally prefer the color version, makes me feel like I'm there watching from a rover. The B/W is certainly dramatic, just find the darks in the sky a touch to dark.

Morkel,

Too my mind this image is all about the sky, which is great. I much prefer the colour version, but when you have had no option but B& W in your formative years colour is always amazing

Morkel - like the 3d effect of the clouds of the b&w but have a slight preference for the color. Not as dark and ominous.

Rachel

Hey Morkel,
I like both with a slight preference to the B&W. Kind of like the crop alternative too. Nicedy done n both cases.

Hi Morkel,
I like both versions with a slight preference of the color version.
I also like both possible crops. Both convey that wide African space feeling
Love that sky,
Gail

Hi Morkel, I too like both, but for me, the sky is just a little too contrasty for the scene in the B/W version. :w3
