Here's an example of when the versatility of the zoom really shines through. I was photographing this beautiful young lad (or gal) as it lay on the ground (and so was I!)...it suddenly got up I had a hunch it was going to stretch or flap its wings. I stayed lying on the ground but pulled back the zoom, alot, and just as I thought it flapped its' wings on cue :-) Photographed at Indian Lakes Estates in the company of Artie.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @190mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/6.3, ISO 400 (histogram checked), natural light, handheld, FF. I wouldn't mind a bit less at right...that will be a good crop option for a 16x20:S3:

Gorgeous pose, Daniel. I love the fact that it's a young SHC. I wonder if he's fledged or whether he's practicing. I would guess still practicing. Lovely light, and I really do like that angle.

A very nice pose and very nice light.
Another round of NR on the BG would look nice to me.
The bird looks very nice.

very nice Dan, I like the details, exposure and dynamic pose. I would post 1024 pixel instead of 900. It is too small for folks who have large screens

Hi Daniel,
I love zoom lenses too and if Canon ever makes a 200-400 ( as good as Nikon) that I can attach an extender to, I will be in heaven!
This is a nice image. I like the light on the near wing and the HA. Cool POV as well.Excellent IQ.
Are you sure the crane wasn't trying to hug Artie?!!!

Nice pose and good techs. Composition is fine and I think cropping off the right will only weaken it.

Comp and techs look great. I like the title, it does look a bit like a mime:bg3:

Excellent low angle image, Daniel.
Having a useful range zoom is a great advantage.
