From Florida, but certainly not a "Florida Specialty" as we get these guys up here during migration...especially Fall. It was nice to photograph them in plumages other than "juvenal" or "non-breeding", plus the sand is much nicer down there!!

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2000s., f/6.3, ISO 400 (histogram checked), natural light, handheld, FF, part of an OOF bird removed at right edge via clone and patch tools.

Nice and sharp with good exposure. I find the OOF foreground to be a bit dominant. I think a slightly higher shooting angle would have been better in here.

Unusual comp and I like it! BG is awesome and interesting angle on the foraging bird . I might take a bit off the bottom to reduce impact of FG. Good depth of field as well,
Gail

I like the foreground as posted. The bird is so much brighter than the surroundings that my eye is drawn right to it and not distracted by the low angle FOV. Nicely done! Your shutter speed certainly allowed for some more DOF, maybe enough to get the tail in focus?

Agree about less foreground and more DOF on the tail, may be f/8?

I enjoy the image as is, the OOF foreground for me is nice as I love these low angle images. Great color and detail, maybe f8 or f9 for more DOF but thats a minor its still a great image.

I like it. Nice and low to create the softness all around the bird. I like the slightly tilted head angle too.

Daniel, I love the comp! Seems like a bit of the sand should be more in focus. Bob

Love the clean BG, low angel shot and a bonus... eye contact.

A slight bit higher would have been my preference here. Love the colors and that slight bit of beach habitat.

Excellent low angle Daniel, love eye contact and sand on the birds beak. I am wondering if you blur forground and background? Agree with comments on how shallow the DOF is.

Thanks guys! I can see that the FG may be a bit dominant. I'm OK with the thin DOF even for the tail as I almost never worry about that anyhow (except for tight head portraits).

Vivaldo, no blurring of either the FG or BG was done in post, just a very low angle and wide aperture.

Thanks Daniel, the DOF looks very shallow almost like when I use my 600mm lens with my 1.7 convertor attached. It doesn't worry me at all, it adds nicely IMO.

Daniel, liked it. I like such super low angles and FG blur does not bother me. excellent pose and details. Well done.
