Melissa, what an interesting observation! I didn't even think about that. I don't recall ever seeing the nictitating membrane in any of these behaviour shots and I got quite a few in the last three years. I assume cormorants have a special membrane....? That's for the expert Ornithologists.

Yes very observant Melissa and I am surprised too. It is very agressive feeding behavior and I have seen some wading birds with really torn up beaks and faces from the young ones feeding. Nice shot Ofer
