These Western Grebes were performing a few weeks ago at an inland lake along the California central coast.

Agree with Arash, and really like the wake they are making as they go. Next you just have to get them coming to you, we can always wish can't we.

Pretty spectacular! Toward you would put this in the stratosphere! A really great one all around!

Steve:

Spectacular action, non overlapping poses, flying water, exposure. Yes, slightly towards us would be better, but still wonderful..
I might try a version with a bit of canvas added to the left.

Great job.

Cheers

Randy

Killer action. Wish that the birds were angling slightly towards us rather than slightly away. For the repost did some eye doctor work on the bird on the right and sharpened the faces of both birds. Though the WHITEs are not showing blown they are lacking detail. A linear burn on the WHITEs helped but only a bit.

Fabulous action, and a super comp. I agree with the others' comments...and looking forward to Artie's repost (which is currently not showing).

Always dreamt of makińg a image like this since childhood when I saw a similar picture as a kid in a magazine. At that time I never even dreamt I would be really photographing birds. Hope to do it some day. Thanks..

Marvelous image. I agree with the above comments & I like that the foot of the front grebe is visible. Great action. TFS.

Really good, I agree about the angle, but getting them in this pose together is really nice.

Hi Steve, excellent timing and an opportunity well captured. Love the symmetrical poses, flying water, and I like Artie's nip and tuck in his repost.

Thank you all for your helpful comments, and to Artie for the cleanup. I agree that a shot of the birds coming toward me would be preferable. I was hoping for such an opportunity that morning. Alas, the only such shot included some distracting elements from the shore behind them. Maybe next year :)
