First real attempt at flight with the D800. It locked in pretty well.
I wish the head was a little separated, but i liked this one.

Dan:
Good to see some BIF images with the D800. Did you shoot full frame, or one of the crop modes?
Do agree about the head/wing merge. The colors are similar enough that the head does get lost a bit.
I suspect the level of detail in a large version of this would be awesome.
The crop is perhaps a bit tight below and right, but it is effective.
Look forward to more with your new gear!
Cheers

This is a nice flight shot Dan but the top of the head and beak get lost in that far wing, great detail.

I agree with the head separation and the overall tightness of the crop.
Exposure and wing position are great.

Hi Dan,
One of the hardest things to get with juvie bald eagles is a clear distinct head. The coloring of head and body is so similar... I like the wing position and IQ. I might add a bit more room below,

The head/wing merger is unfortunate, but I do love the details and near wing. I agree the bird placed a little higher would work well. Love the two claws peeking out from behind the wing:S3:

Hi Dan, great view of the near wing, lots of detail and overall the eagle is nice and sharp. Merge of the head mentioned, and agree taking a bit off the top will work.

What did I do? Does it look any better?

Arthur, yes it does, It was shot underexposed and I was afraid to lighten it too much to lose IQ.
It is the now typical D800 crop, not too drastic, but about 30% of in camera 1.2 crop.
I had no room at the bottom, I need to use the full FX for in flight as I clipped the wings of two better photos.
The head does stand out of bit more on your repost, but I really didn't get the shot it could have been.
Thanks for taking the time, I will meet you next weekend, cross your fingers, the weather forecast is looking
good for the Oregon Coast.

I just lightened the head area a bit, added some contrast there, and darkened the pupil. Love the wing position. And the sharpness.

very nice Dan, I like Artie's repost, this would be a killer shot with wings up or more down with no merge.
Looks like you're enjoying the new camera

Nice image Dan! I like the wing details and sharpness. Head/wing merge already mentioned. Arthurs repost brings out the potential of this image.
