This fairly fresh Elephant was fairly unsteady on its feet, and received the constant support of his family.

Taken in Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa, 18th April 2012

This is a very emotive image that tells a wonderful story. Great techs. I like the texture of the elephants' skin, the trunks & the eye of the youngster. Well captured. TFS.

This is precious. It tells the story well. Agree with Harshad, on the highlights.

Harshad and Laurie.

Can you explain what you men by "recovering highlights"?

Are you referring to the rather bright grass?

Ken,

Yes, the bright grass and parts of some legs.

You are asking the wrong person for help here. I try lowering the exposure or applying a little recovery in Bridge but that does not help a lot. In addition when it is just the background, I mask it and darken the bright background in Curves.

Hopefully an expert in processing will give you a better answer.

Ken - very tender moment with good detail on the ellies. I too found the highlights too harsh. As you know, I am in no way an expert on PP but took a couple of minutes and had a go. I did a luminosity mask at 65% opacity, burned the highlights at 15% and dodged the shadows at 7% and reduced the yellows -20. It's still not ideal but the highlights are not as eye grabbing. I'm sure you can do more with the RAW.

Rachel

Looks like a nice safe place. Love the look on the mum(?). Also like the intertwining lines of all the legs and trunks.
