Great angle, light and exposure. There is a slight S/H halo around the head.

Phil,

You did well with the exposure and positioning of the bird here. The image lacks "pop" as it is too low in contrast. In my repost I did a local contrast enhancement using USM at 30-60-0. That caused some whites to overexposure but if you increase the contrast during your post-processing on a tiff and not as I have done to the JPG you can avoid that. Either a more aggressive s-curve or using the method I did.

Love the sharpness and COMP in the ORIG. Robert's fix was an improvement but I believe that the soft look was from too much SH/H or an underexposed ORIG that was otherwise lightened.... If the former, the solution is to increase the midtone contrast in SH/H to about 8-12 after making the SH ADJ.
