5.49am.
Rarely seen in Hippo's and a privilege to witness.
Taken from a microlight over the Luangwa river. Cutting some of the hippos in this frame was unavoidable I'm afraid.:e3
According to my pilot John, this hippo is leucitic and not albino as it had some pigmented spots and dark eyes. He had given this one up for dead as he hadn't seen it for nearly 4 years.
Leucistic animals often do not survive in the wild as they are visible to predators and get sunburnt, this one was quite mature and doing OK.
The fleeing croc, lower left, was a welcome addition.

D700 70-200VRII 1/320s f/5.6 ISO1250 @ 70mm. F/F. Luangwa River, Sth Luangwa NP- Zambia. Nov 2011.

C & C most welcome

Cheers

Marc - It's nice the way this shows how large the herd (is that the right term?) is and the pinkie is a bonus. Thanks for the additional facts about it. Is that a log near the top middle?

Beautiful capture. The croc seems to be fleeing for its life! Looks very puny compared to the hippos

A nice perspective Marc, if it was me I would lose the two 'truncated' ones. Likle the inclusion of the croc.

I cant make any suggestions for improvement, I have never flown in a plane over hippos or crocs. So...nice image, any way you slice it.

Love this one Marc. The pinky and the croc make it for me. Lovely perspective...need to do this someday!

Agree that the pink hippo and the croc really make this one for me, and of course the top view perspective is very unique and powerful. I just looked up the group name for hippos and the choices are: pod, herd, dale or bloat.

Neat shot Marc. A view that most will never see.
