You get pretty close to these. He/She looks pretty melancholy.
Very nice detail, the BG matches the Dog and is very nice.
It looks like it could use just a tad of contrast for separation.
Nice close up comp.

Hi Rachel, lovely image. I will go against above suggestions, personally wouldn't add any more contrast, due to the bright light levels TFS.

I thought this image was nice, but something was needed to give a different perspective. I cropped off the left side and a small sliver on the top. This puts it off center and removes the distracting blurry twig in the left of the pane. I also did a Highlights and Shadows adjustment, in CS4, slider to the left on shadows down to 16 I believe. Then a auto contrast, a slight but much needed change to give it back the pop it needed to separate it out from the background, just slightly. This gives it some more detail in the chest, under and around the chin and nose areas. The side facing the camera has more separation in the tones and color palette is a bit richer while not blocking up the shades of blacks.

If you have the RAW file, you might re-work it, if that is the direction you want to go. A nice image either way. Thanks for sharing Rachel.

Thank yo all for the comments. I think I just like a little less contrast than most :w3. Grady - I like what you've done with the comp. Interesting, I never go that high with a shadow or highlight adjustment for fear of affecting the IQ. I tend to only adjust s/h a few points, if at all.

Nice IQ Rachel. I like Grady's comp. As for contrast, I can see myself having two different versions of this one dependent on the mood at the time.
