Sanjeev - this is a nice close-up. I took the liberty of doing a repost. First I cropped some from the left and below to give it what I felt was a stronger comp. I opened the mid-tones a bit in a levels adjustment to about 1.10 to bring out some more detail in the blacks, particularly in the mouth and nose areas. I also applied Robert's luminosity mask at 50% to try to tone down some of the highlights. Finally, I applied the sharpening action posted by Morkel in a sticky at the top of this forum but backed off the sharpening to about 50%. The sharpening may still be a bit too much since I was working with your already sharpened JPEG but it gives you an idea. I hope you don't mind.

Hi Rachel, I really liked the output of your adjustments and the improved tonality of the image. I was quiet happy that the 3200 ISO did a good job, and the noiseware pro filter I used in PS did preserve detail. What NR would you recomend? I process my RAW in DPP, then follow it up in PS. Should I stick to ACR for 7D files?

Sanjeev - Lately I have been using ACR more than DPP but I do still occasionally use DPP. You're probably best off asking Steve C. about NR, I don't usually shoot at the high ISOs. If I need NR I usually just use CS5.

Impressive noise control Sanjeev. I find with 7D files that sometimes DPP does a better job for editing the RAW file although this theory is still work in progress.

Hi Sanjeev, I think what Rachel has done to the image just goes to show you have the potential in the image, you just need to take some time and expand your knowledge in your processing to get the best from your files.

I would prefer if you had moved slightly to the left (if possible), so the 'partial' eye was not visible. If you can, I might tone down the slight highlight in the BKG running along the bridge of the nose and down by the mouth.

Indeed a good job at ISO-3200. Great job from Rachel too! (perhaps just a tad oversharpened as she mentioned herself)
I would love to see one of these in the wild one day, wouldn't you?
For NR on my 7D files I use LR3 and CS5...does the trick well for me - oh and I NEVER apply NR to the subject (except when using the LR sliders but I keep them very low).
