I did not find what I was looking for this morning but I did come upon a group of turkeys. I liked the background so I went in close for a
head shot. I like the personality which seems to come through.

D300s 600 VR with 1.4 tc. ISO 320. 1/1000 at f/9. I cropped a bit off the top for better composition.

Very nice comp, details and pose Allan. Excellent portrait.

I like the pose and background. I might sharpen the neck/throat a bit, and the eye needs work (maybe increasing the mid-tones and/or toning down the brightness), because as it looks now the eye is distracting.

Very nice tight portrait. I believe the nictitating membrane is visible in this photograph giving the eye a slightly cloudy look. Easily fixed! I love the complimentary BG but see a dust bunny to the left above mid-beak. Love the IQ and detail,
Gail

Good call from Gail. Nictitating membrane, huzzah. I'd leave the eye as-is myself, I love it! Also, I love turkeys and think they're beautiful! Nice colors, nice job!

Ewwwwwwww. Need to see this type of image so I won't eat Turkey meat. :)
Sweet shot, Allan.

Thanks for the comments. I did remove the dust bunny but that is not significant enough for a repost.
I am ok with the sharpening as is.
I had darkened the eye already but did not want to darken more and spoil the membrane. It might have been better if the membrane wasn't there, but it was.

Allan, excellent portrait...full of character. lots of details, nice clean BG, well exposed and composed. Did you not fire a burst? I do that many times just to make sure I get one without the membrane :-)

I did fire many short bursts. I picked this one because of the head angle and the snood hanging over the bill.

good choice despite the membrane, I'd say.

is that what it is really called, a "snood?" Sweet portrait shot.
