Good one, Jim. Perfect woodpecker pose and comp (1/3 tree, etc.). Showing the hole is a bonus, and the bg is great. My several attempts at capturing this spectacular bird have failed miserably. This one's terrific.

Hi Jim, well exposed on the woodpecker, and I like how you have captured him away from the tree and against the BG. Thats one impressive hole, and did this fellow do that all on his own. As Im not familiar with woodpeckers, how long would he take to peck away a hole like that?

Very nice shot. I really like the background, great job on including the hole, and great comp.
Well done.

Impressive Jim; I for one do not find these easy. Typical hole from my obs. That red head is fine its a real ***** to get right

This wasnt in Nicoya by any chance, Cabo Blanco?

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Stuart I don't know how long it would take to make the hole. They can chip away the wood pretty quick.

Richard this was taken just south of Uvita near Playa Ventana.

OK Jim, I know that area. Last saw on in Puerto Viejo it came right next to me on a tree but didnt stay more than a couple of seconds; they are a lot bigger than they look in photos!
