Another image from my 2010 trip to Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park, Alaska. I've posted an image of this same bear before but I like this one because of the falls in the bg. No way to get lower or to avoid the rock behind the bear because you're limited to being on the platforms at the falls and they're crowded with other people most of the time. This was taken late afternoon or early evening.

Canon 50D
100-400 @ 400mm
1/500
f7.1
ISO 800
EC +.67
Tripod from the platform. Luminosity mask, slight s/h, levels, curves, selective color and sharpened in CS5.

C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Rachel

Hi Rachel, doesn't look happy, based on the expression.

Good to see the detail in the eyes, nose & claws. Wonder if it might look cleaner with a hint take off at the top, so the crop starts at the base of the curve at the top of the waterfall?

Thanks Steve, I waivered about exactly the crop you suggest. I should have gone with it.

I agree Rachel, crop some off the top.

Rachel,

I like this for the same reason as you, but agree that some off the top would be a good idea

Thanks Steve, Robert and Ken. Here it is with some cropped off the top as suggested.

Thanks again,

Very nice setting/composition, Rachel. Good repost showing the improvement the crop brings. :bg3:

I agree with crop. As for the bright green moss on the rock, think I'd burn it some, tone it down, to lessen its distraction.

Hi Rachel,
What a great setting for this guy but he doesn't look happy (maybe upset about his haircut?) Good idea on the crop off the top, the dark dip in the waterfall top instantly grabbed my view.

Rachel. I like the repost. The bear looks like a senior citizen not enjoying its environment.
