Kachemak Bay, AK

D4, 300, ISO 640, f5.6, 1/5000.

Taken as the birds lifted just a few feet off the snow.

Fantastic! This would be a "once in a lifetime" for most of us...

Great capture. There are a few technical problems such as blown highlights, but in an image this strong they are hardly noticeable.

Once again fantastic! I have a pretty well calibrated monitor, and don't see any blowout at all. How are you liking the D4? Shooting full frame?

Beautiful shot! Is the background a combination of snow in the lower part and sky from the middle up?

Very nice!! Just joined recently. Been admiring your work for a while. A friend of mine was the Audubon grand prize winner in 2009 with a very similar shot.
You may know of the photographer or the shot. Rob Palmer is his name. Techs look great on my monitor too. Very hard shot to expose properly. Very nice!!

Alan, you hit this out of the park...just so many things that make it a truly great shot. loved the cold day feel, the open bill, the eye of the second eagle, the poses....everything :-)

Alan, Killer shot! I noticed that your eagles are processed with a lot of black in the feathers. I real life there are more brown tones in the feathers. Is that your personal preference or the Nikon d4 color rendering?

Been shooting a D700, haven't you? What I meant was are you shooting the D4 full-frame or in one of the crop modes? Sounds like not crop mode. I'm thinking when I get the D800E, I may really like the 1.2 crop mode.

Hey Clemens, the Eagle feathers look brown on my monitor. Perhaps on the cool side because it was overcast.

Hey Ron, I've never shot with a D700?? I always shoot in full frame and crop in post. That way I have a less chance of clipping wings when doing action. Shooting in a crop mode in the field is too risky for me with no gain. Thanks.
