or Dad? hard to know, but the adult was where the chicks were on Saturday so I assume this is the nest.
The chicks were 20 feet below, on the other side of the tree.
Great Horned Owl
They hang out on not exactly the best photo perches around in my area.
This is about as in the open as I can get them.
Again poor light, handheld at 1/200!

It is not your best picture Dan, but none the less it is nice to have one around and be able to photgraph it.

My biggest nit with this image is that the tail has been cut off so wish for more space at the bottom,

We can't have silky smooth BG and Fg every time. The owl looks sharp, I think just the face could use a little brightening.

Hey Dan, beautiful subject...you are indeed lucky to have one around for you to follow and document! I too wish for more room below for the tail, and some fill would have done good for the face area (exposing more would give you a very blown sky). You could bump the ISO to 800 to give yourself 1/400s. which does help with handholding...
