I'm looking for good opportunities to photograph elk in the central US-somewhere within 8 or 10 hours of southeastern Arkansas would be great. I posted this a few months back before the data loss, but can't find the thread (and it had some good information in it from what little I recall). Seems like someone recommended a place in Kansas???? I had originally thought about Rocky Mountain National Park, but the travel budget can't stomach that with almost $4 a gallon gas. In the early stages of planning right now and am open to almost anything. Thanks for your help.

Not sure about Kansa but a member posted a picture of an elk taken in the JT Nickel preserve in OK.

I'll second Wichita Mountains. There is also bison, longhorn cattle, prairie dogs, burrowing owl, etc. Great place.

Living in Oklahoma, I have been to both places. Both are nice for elk photography. What about Boxley Valley in AR??

Thanks for the input gentlemen, these suggestions give me a few places to investigate further. Mike, the Boxley Valley area (previously unknown to me) is very attractive to me given the short travel distance.

I'm looking forward to getting to know some new country, I've spent most of my life in Georgia and Alabama but am relocating to southeast Arkansas soon. Thanks again for the input.
