Found this Long - Tailed duck on land ( which I had never seen in our latitude ) resting in the sun. Was able to stay within 15 feet for over an hour. The light was very harsh and coming from the side.
D300 with AF-S 300mm 2.8VR + TC 1.4E
F 6.3 , 1/2500 , iso 320 , -1.0ev.

Nice low angle. As you have mentioned light angle is the downside. Too bad you could not back off a bit and then move to your left 90 deg. Or perhaps the onboard flash to open up shadows.

Way to go Dave. Moving well left to sun angle and then getting lower would have been the ticket (if possible). Sharp as presented. The WHITE on the top of the head looks super-toasted....

Great opportunity with the duck on land. I like the low angle too bad about the light.

I dont recollect seeing a shot with feet visible of this duck. terrific opportunity. very unique view.
