Such beautiful colors on these guys. I was lucky this week to get a few close encounters of some shovelers.St PeteFL. I worked on lightening the face a little not sure if it was enough. Also removed oof drake in bg 20% crop

I envy you being able to get so close. They're always in the middle to far side of the pond when I try. He posed for you nicely, and you did a great job capturing. Head is plenty light enough for me, and you're showing off that beautiful plumage (not to mention the wonderful beak) wonderfully. Terrific image.

Yes I figured it out. I have to position myself in the reeds wearing waders to stay dry. I usually take my tripod but it always gets all tangled up and yuck so I decided to just go for it hand held. They spook so easily so it's like cat and mouse you know. Then it becomes a waiting game and I just sit and wait for them to come back. They don't always :(

Hi Cheryl, super low angle of capture, with a good preening pose. You have certainly 'lightened' the face enough, as the green iridescence shows up nicely. ( did you bring up the exposure in camera, or in pp work ) either way, it looks great. Love how the yellow eye pops from the green of the head. I also like the colour of the water. Well captured.

Thanks Stuart. I actually shot in camera a little high but the sun was shadowing the head a little coming from the left so I adjusted in PS

Cheryl, loved the pose...with swimming ducks, I always try to time something like that. not easy...very well done here. Shoveller drake is one of the most difficult ducks to expose and process correctly IMO.
