Here is another take on an earlier posting, accessed whilst still away, but looking forward to doing more Owls in the next week with more BPN folk. :S3:

Super perch and bird, nit picky suggestion #1 would be to clone out the smaller branches below but that's really nit picky. Love the eyes as they stand out so much from the white background.
Now am I reading right, you HH your 500 with a 2x converter at 1/400 sec and got that detail? Is nikon IS that much better?

Lovely pose with direct eye contact. Perch is fine with me. Light angle seems off a bit but sometimes you take what you can get and you did very well. I do wonder if a tripod would have made a difference for fine detail even with a sharp looking photo.

Gorgeous exposure and detail. I have put some perches out for "my owls" but they tend to use them when I am not there!

Not practical in this instance Dave.

Gail, this printed out 1m high, the quality even then was impressive.

Jonathan I found these three birds quartering the surrounding fields, this took 2 days to nail, with a bit of luck. The tree is part of an old hedgerow, no prop. As you know these birds for us are quite skittish.
