Had another go at photographing Goldfinches. Just wanted to spend time with the kit and try to get reasonably sharp shots with less than 1/1000s.

Comments are very much appreciated.

Canon 7D, 600 F4 IS, 1.4x III, AFMA +3, ISO 800, f5.6, 1/640, Single point AF, AI Servo, used Lightroom 4 Beta to perform NR, sharpening and converting to JPEG

What a beauty! Great colors on this species and very smooth BG.

Sharpness is very good on this one, pose and head angle are good too.

Only thing that this image suffers from is strong light from the right side. Nice shot.

Very different from the goldfinches on this side of the Atlantic... very colorful. Light is a bit bright for side light esp. with front in shadow. Sharp image... perhaps a 1/2 stop less exposure would have worked, too (if the head was in the light).

Cheers,

Ezhil,
Great looking bird and a very nice capture. Agree with all the comments above. Looks like the light angle is the spoiler. The dark shadow in front of the bird on the wooden stump is a little distracting. You might try to lighten it up along with the neck and breast of the bird.
