This is the mate of the red head drake that I posted yesterday. According to a friend of mine who knows ducks well, she is very old. As I said before these usually skiddish ducks live in a pond right behind a McDonald's and are used to people. I took this with a straight 300 and is minimally cropped. A low angle is not possible at this location, but I still enjoy it.

Grace:

I like the clean water, exposure and sharpness, the faintly visible leg.

Yes to the shooting angle, but sometimes lower isn't available.

Can you share what traits age this duck?

Cheers

Randy

I love the IQ of this girl. Good composition and nice reflection and smooth water. No nits from me,

Thank you Randy and Gail. Randy, I'm not sure why he says she is old. I will ask him...he is a duck carver of note so I'm sure he has an explanation. I did not have a great pose with a view of the right side of her head, but she has quite a few feathers that are tinged in white. Maybe?

Great techs - sharpness, IQ, exposure and comp.
I have to confess though that I keep visualizing how much better this would have been at a lower angle (if only it were always possible)

Hi Grace, lovely swimming angle, and I like the overall DOF. You have brought out the feather detail very well, sharp, and the hint of droplets adds to the image. I would have left a touch more space below. :w3

Thanks everyone. I too lament the angle, but there is no way to accomplish it without risking arrest. I do love a low angle shot, but not that much. :Whoa!:

You mean you wouldn't risk jail time for a lower angle??:t3

Super details and I like the soft light. I also like the sprinkling of water drops on the feathers. I'm with Stuart for a bit more room below.
