During our last trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, this young male lion ate grass for digestive reasons. This was the first time I observed this behaviour from a feline (as canines and canids are known for doing this).

Late afternoon light, albeit from the "wrong" direction.

Techs:
Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II + 1.4xTC @ 700mm

A nice and unusual behavioural image here Morkel, well captured with good colour, detail and rim lighting. Perhaps just a bit more room all round if you have it?

Morkel - nice light and tone. Reminds me of a house cat. Growing up ours were always eating grass and plants.:S3:

Hi Morkel, Agree with Marcs observations and I don't think the light is an issue, but I know what you were thinking. I like the warmth of the light it's given a nice look & feel.

Perhaps in an ideal world, the small blue patch by the eye was not there. :w3

Thanks guys. Marc, I cropped a bit from all sides so I should have more room - will have to reprocess though...
Steve...the blue is from the waterhole behind it. It works with a solar pump so on hot days when the water table is on a decent level it'll cause a bit of an overflow, which also helps the image appear more natural. :bg3:
