Another image from our sighting of a Brown Hyena Den at Madikwe, South Africa, 10th January 2012

Very bad lighting conditions and plenty of twigs:2eyes2:

Ken - This is one of my favorites of yours. Huge cuteness factor and great IQ. The surrounding habitat gives the image a sense of the hyena peeking out of the den area. In a perfect world the shadows would not be across the face.

Rachel,

Thanks for your comment, fortunately there is no such thing as a perfect world:bg3:

I love the picture, for the same reasons mentioned above. Another reason is that I have never seen a brown hyena pup, only an adult, also in Madikwe. She was also in the shade but your light and IQ is much better.

Don't mind the dappled light as you have consistent shadow at least on this cute face.
The diagonal timber lines frames quite nicely also.

Amazing sighting and any picture of this scene would be fascinating - but this is a good one and I agree with others that you handled the lighting admirably
